Why is Lord Shiva innocent if he is a god?

Lord Shiva in Meditation
Someone, asked this question in Quora. And this was my answer to the question.
Lord Shiva is not innocent but, he is very merciful and easily pleased. That's why, he is called Ashutosh or Bhole - Baba. His mercy and quickness in responding to anyone who is worshiping him with boons, might make people think that he is innocent. Tats how, Lord Shiva got into trouble once by giving a boon to a demon called Vrakasura. The boon was the ability to turn anyone into ashes by the touch of the palm. And, then the demon wanted to try and see if the boon is working or not, by trying it on Lord Shiva himself. And, Vishnu had to disguise his form and trick the demon to try the special power that's been granted on himself and finally turning into ashes. Huuhh. A sigh of relief.
As a matter of fact, Lord Shiva is the greatest of all Vaishnavas (Vaishnavanam Yatha Shambu), one of the 12 Mahajanas and the position of him unique in the sense that Lord Shiva does not belong to the Category of living entities, Jivas including Lord Brahma and his creation and is the most powerful, second only to Lord Vishnu. Lord Shiva is neither an avatara nor avesha and is also not in between them. Lord Shiva is the greatest demigod, even greater than Lord Brahma. He is also a spiritual master having his own spiritual line called Rudra Sampradaya. The position of Lord Shiva is very beautiful explained in Brahma Samhita (Verse 45),”Just as milk is transformed into curd by the action of acids, but yet the effect curd is neither same as, nor different from, its cause, viz., milk, so I adore the primeval Lord Govinda of whom the state of Shambhu is a transformation for the performance of the work of destruction”. Thus, Lord Shiva who is in charge of mode of ignorance has connection with the material energy. Parvathi or Durga who is in charge of material energy is his wife.
Lord Shiva is so merciful that he is going around with Ghosts and Hobgoblins. Can’t imagine going around with Ghost without becoming crazy. Lord Shiva is in charge of Tamo Guna, mode of ignorance or the false ego. The greatest false ego one can have is to think one is same the material body. Even though he is so intimately connected with material energy and in charge of Mode of ignorance, he is no way affected by it and always remains pure. Also, to mention his dress of skin of a animal, body painted with ashes. In fact, the name Shivam means, all Auspiciousness. Lord Shiva has his own spiritual world called Mahesh Dham, where he is called Sadashiva. Just confuse, people he appears in the material world from the place between the eyebrows of Lord Brahma as Rudra who became angry at four Kumaras.
The furious Rudra was in Ardhanari form, half his body was male and other half female. He divided himself into two: the male and female. The male form then split itself into eleven, forming the eleven Rudras. Some of them were white and gentle; while others were dark and fierce. Namely,Manyu,Manu,Mahmasa,Mahan,Siva,Rtudhvaja,Ugraretas,Bhava,Kama,Vamadeva and Dhrtavrata.
From the woman were born the eleven Rudranis who became wives of the Rudras.
They are:Dhi,Vrtti,Usana,Urna,Niyuta,Sarpis,Ila,Ambika,Iravatl,Sudha and Diksa.
The names are mentioned different in different Puranas.
In Srimad Bhagavatham,3.12.11, Lord Brahma addresses the Rudra as follows, telling him all the places where he (as anger) can reside.
hd indriyāy asur vyoma
vāyur agnir jala mahī
sūryaś candras tapaś caiva
sthānāny agre ktāni te
My dear boy, I have already selected the following places for your residence: the heart, the senses, the air of life, the sky, the air, the fire, the water, the earth, the sun, the moon and austerity.
And, so many amazing pastimes of Lord Shiva can be quoted like, the churning of the milk ocean, the deadly venom was released and which was endangering the whole world. Lord Shiva drank the whole poison called Halahala and kept it in his throat, because which his throat became dark blue and that's why he is called Nilakanta - Blue throated one. And, the famous Daksha yajna, where he was humiliated by his father in-law, Daksha Prajapati and he simply walked away without being affected.
As you can see, Lord Shiva or Shiva tattva is a difficult subject matter to understand. Suffice to say, he is not innocent.
As you can see, Lord Shiva or Shiva tattva is a difficult subject matter to understand. Suffice to say that he is not innocent.

Yudhishthira speaks about the advent of Kali Yuga

City Landscape

Five thousand years ago, one day when Yudhishthira Maharaj the eldest of Pandavas was ruling the planet, a citizen came and informed him that he noticed a strange thing happened that day. His fence is moving into other's place and he is wondering why it happened like that.
On the same day, another citizen came and told him that he came across a strange thing that he had a big pot with full of water, he poured that water into small pots then he poured back from the small pots to big pot but surprisingly only half is filling into that big pot.
Another person came and said that he saw a strange thing that a big elephant is passing through from a needle hole but surprisingly its tail got stuck in that hole.
Meanwhile, another person came and said that he saw big rock in the street and big personalities are not able to move but then, a sadhu came by and simply by waving his Sanyasa danda, it moved.

Yudhishthira Maharaj said that, all these qualities show that kali yuga, the age of degradation, strife and quarrel is coming. He explained the meaning of the unusual happening as below,

The first symptom is one of the citizen's fence is moving into other's area shows that people are interested in what others have and feel unhappy why they don't have, then think a way to acquire them either hook or crook.

The second symptom is the big pot with full of water when it is poured into small pots and pour back into big pot, he noticed only half only, which means that one can expect only fifty percent of love, affection and help from others compared what you did to the same person.

The third symptom of big elephant going through a needle but the tail getting
stuck means that, people are ready to spend a huge chunk of their income, efforts, energy and resources for the sense satisfaction of their family, friends and loved ones but when it comes to God realisation and learning the scriptures like Bhagavatam they are not ready to spend a little bit also.

The fourth symptom, a big rock not moved by persons who are having lot of
strength but a sadhu moved that rock just by waving his danda or the staff, which means that one can get rid of all their unlimited sins, just by performing Namasankirtanam or Chanting of the names of Lord Hari.

Thus, in Hinduism the universe or cosmology is said to be passing in a cyclic manner in four distinct ages or epochs. The Satya Yuga is said to be the best of all the ages, when people’s life duration is long, virtuous nature etc. And, Kali yuga is said to be the last phase or stage of the universe when everything is topsy turvy, degraded and not auspicious.

So, what is the hope for people of Kali Yuga?
(Srimad Bhagavatham and Bhagavad Gita)
krsne sva-dhamopagate
dharma-jnanadibhih saha
kalau nasta-dsam esa
puranarko 'dhunodita
This Bhagavata Puraa is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord Krishna to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali shall get light from this Purana.(SB1.3.43)
Bhagavad-gita is the preliminary study of the Bhagavatam. And Srimad-Bhagavatam is the summum bonum of life, Lord Sri Ksna personified. We must therefore accept Srimad-Bhagavatam as the direct representation of Lord Krisha. One who can see Srimad-Bhagavatam can see also Lord Sri Krishna in person. They are identical.

Furthermore, in Bhagavatham, there is assurance and solace about Kali Yuga.

Though there are so many faults in this kaliyuga, the good thing is, just by
chanting the holy names of the lord, one can get up to the highest benefit of
liberation as mentioned in SB 12.3.51 that,
kaler dosa-nidhe rajann
asti hy eko mahan gunah
kirtanad eva krsnasya
mukta-sangah param´ vrajet
My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one
good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the name of Lord Sri Krishna,
one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the
transcendental kingdom of Vaikunta

Gita Jayanti and Gita Dhyanam - Meditation on The Gita

Few days ago, 30th Nov 2017 was the Anniversary of Gita Jayanti - the day on which about 5000 years ago, Lord Krishna spoke Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna in the battle of Kurukshetra. The place where Lord Krishna spoke the Bhagavad Gita is located at a place called as Jyotisaar Kurukestra, state of Haryana which is about 160 Kms from Delhi and well connected by a Train Station and road. Train journey takes about 2 and haif hours and the place Jyotisar is located at a distance of 8 km from the railway station.
Gita Dhyanam is a prayers or meditation on Lord Krishna, prayers to the Great Rishi Veda Vyasa, the author of Bhagavad Gita which is a part of Mahabharata. These prayer verses are written by a great acharya by name Madhusudana Saraswati before he wrote his commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. The name of his commentary is called Gudhartha Dipika, a lamp which illumines the hidden and deeper meanings of the Bhagavad Gita. It is a very famous commentary on the Gita. Thus, before starting the study actual Gita, it has become customary to study these nine verses of Dhyana Sloka written by this Acharya,to invoke auspiciousness, grace of the Lord  and removal of obstacles and successfully complete the study of the great scripture Bhagavad Gita. I came across these verses, read them and found them to be profound. In fact, we all must have heard these verses many times during our growing up years. I have decided to collect and post this as an article for the benefit of myself and my readers. I had to bit of research on the actual author of Gita Dhyanam verses and found out that the author is not Sripad ShankaraCharya but, only the verse 5 is ascribed to him. Also, I had to look at various versions of the verses available on the net and which one is easy to read and recite and as close as possible to the original Sanskrit version.

Lord Sri Krishna
1.Om Parthaya prathi boditham bhagawathaa narayanena swayam,
Vyasaena grahitham Purana muninaa madhye Mahabaratham,
Advaithamrutha varshaneem bhagawtheem ashta dasa dhyayineem,
Ambaa thwaam anusandadhami bhagwad geethaa bhava dweshineem.
Om.O Bhagavad Gita, with which Partha was illumined by Lord Narayana Himself, and which was composed within the Mahabharata by the ancient sage, Vyasa, O Divine Mother, the destroyer of rebirth, the showerer of the nectar of Advaita, and consisting of eighteen discourses—upon Thee, O Gita, Oaffectionate Mother, I meditate!

2. Namosthuthe Vyasa vishala budhe
    phullaravindata tha pathra nethra
    Yena thwayaa Bharatha thaila poorna
    prajjvalitho jnanamaya pradheepa.
Salutations to Vyasa, of broad intellect and with eyes like the petals of a full-blown lotus, by whom the lamp of knowledge, filled with the oil of the Mahabharata, has been lighted!

3.Prapanna parijataya
   totra vetraika panaye
   Jnana mudhraaya Krishnaaya
   geethamritha duhe namah.
Salutations to Lord Krishna, the Parijata or the Kalpataru or the bestower of all desires for those who take refuge in Him, the holder of the whip in one hand, the holder of the symbol of divine knowledge and the milker of the divine nectar of the Bhagavad Gita!

4.Sarvaopanishadho gaavo
   dogdhaa Gopala Nandanah,
   Parthoo vathsa sudheer bhokthaa
   dugdam Geetamritham mahath.
All the Upanishads are the cows; the milker is Krishna; the cowherd boy, Partha (Arjuna), is the calf; men of purified intellect are the drinkers; the milk is the great nectar of the Gita.

5.Vasudeva sutham devam
    kamsa Chanoora mardhanam,
    Devaki paramanandam
    Krishnam vande Jagat Gurum.
I salute Sri Krishna, the world-teacher, son of Vasudeva, the destroyer of Kamsa         and Chanura, the supreme bliss of Devaki!

6.Bheeshma drona thata jayadradha jalaa , Gandhaara neelothphala,
Shalyaaa grahavathee , kripena vahanee , karnena Velakulaa,
Aswathama Vikarnaa ghora Makaraa Duryodhana varthinee,
Sotheerno kalu Pandavai , rana nadhee kaivarthaka Kesava.
With Kesava as the helmsman, verily was crossed by the Pandavas the battle-river, whose banks were Bhishma and Drona, whose water was Jayadratha, whose blue lotus was the king of Gandhara       Sakuni, whose crocodile was Salya, whose current was   Kripa, whose billow was Karna, whose terrible alligators were Vikarna and Asvatthama, whose whirlpool was Duryodhana.

7.Parashrayaa vacha sarojamamalam Geethartha gandothkatam,
   Nanakhyanaka kesaram harikatha sambodhanaa bodhitham,
Loke sajjana shat padairaharaha pepeyamaanam mudhaa,
Bhooyad Bharatha pankajam kali mala pradhwamsina shreyase.
May this lotus of the Mahabharata, born in the lake of the words of Vyasa, sweet with the fragrance of the meaning of the Gita, with many stories as its stamens, fully opened by the discourses of Hari, the destroyer of the sins of Kali, and drunk     joyously by the bees of good men in the world, become day by day the bestower of good to us!

8.Mookam karoti vaachaalam pangum langhayate girim;
   Yatkripaa tamaham vande Paramananda madhavam.
I salute that Madhava, the source of supreme bliss, whose Grace makes the dumb eloquent and the cripple cross mountains!

9.Yam brahmaVaruna indrua Rudra maruthsthunvanthi divyai sthavai,
Vedai saang padakrama upanishadair gayanthi yam SAmaga,
Dhyanasthitha thadgadaina manasa pasyanthi yam Yogino,
Yasyaantham na vidhu surasura ganaa devaaya tasmai nama.

Salutations to that God whom Brahma, Indra, Varuna, Rudra and the Maruts praise with divine hymns, of whom the Sama-chanters sing by the Vedas and their Angas (in the Pada and Krama methods), and by the Upanishads; whom the Yogis see with their minds absorbed in Him through meditation, and whose ends, the hosts of Devas and Asuras can never be found - unto that Supreme Personality of Godhead I offer my humble obeisance’s.
